Breaking the Cycle: Building Safe, Stronger Communities Together
What is Philadelphia CeaseFire?
A Campaign to Stop Gun Violence in Our Community
Our Comprehensive Approach to Ending Gun Violence Together
Philadelphia CeaseFire is a structured, deliberate and disciplined violence intervention program that was developed in Chicago based on the premise that violence is a public health issue and can be prevented. The program in Philadelphia will duplicate the evidence- paste methodology of theCeaseFire Chicago public health model and focus its efforts to stop shootings and killings in the 14th District in North Philadelphia. The approach includes efforts to heighten Community awareness about gun violence and encourage area residents, community, business and faith-based leaders to work together and get involved.
No American city better epitomizes the epidemic of Youth violence than Philadelphia. Nationally, homicide represents the second leading cause of death among individuals ages 15 to 19 and the leading cause of death for young philadelphians within this same demographic.
The 5 CeaseFire Core Components to Combat Gun Violence
Building a Safer Future Through Community Collaboration and Action
CeaseFire Philadelphia is a crucial initiative tackling the urgent public health crisis of gun violence in our city. By implementing five core components, we aim to create a unified response to the epidemic of youth violence in the 14th District. Through Community Mobilization, we will engage residents, businesses, and faith leaders to stand against violence. Youth Outreach will build trust with at-risk individuals, directing them toward positive futures. Our Public Education campaign will raise awareness and promote nonviolence. Leadership Involvement ensures that community leaders actively support those seeking change. Finally, Criminal Justice Participation will hold offenders accountable and strengthen relationships with law enforcement.

Philadelphia CeaseFire Launches New Effort To End Street Violence
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia CeaseFire has launched a new campaign that it hopes will stop violent shootings before they occur. “The young man that just got killed…we all know him.” Yellow caution tape is still wrapped around trees near 10th and York Streets where a 19-year-old man was gunned down last Thursday — but he is just one of many. “Shooting in this community is not going to be tolerated,” says Quinzel Tomoney, supervisor with Philadelphia CeaseFire.
